The History of the Big Band

Under the direction of Musical Director, Pete Long, 'The History of the Big Band', offers a nostalgic trip back through the times of the Big Band and Swing Era.


The scores have been meticulously researched and the band perform famous tunes from the Worlds greatest Big Band leaders including; Harry James, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Woody Herman & Buddy Rich


The show is narrated by our swinging vocalist who recreates the legendary vocals of Sinatra and Harry Connick Junior. The scene is set in the “La Vegas” Night Club where our vocalist tends the bar and tells the story of the Big Band Leaders to the customers sat near by.


Occasionally they take to the floor to show the moves of the era in some energetic and fast paced routines, including the celebrated Lindy-Hop.


The use of Sinatra vocal charts leads the audience on a musical journey from one bandleader to another as history shows us, Frank Sinatra began his careers with Harry James, before moving to being the featured singer with Tommy Dorsey’s band. Later on in his career, he performed and recorded with Duke Ellington, Count Basie in Las Vegas and with Woody Herman at the Madison Square Gardens.


A cleverly narrated show, the History of the Big Bands features a series of first class soloists from each instrumental section, covering the famous solos as played by the original bandleaders.


The History of the Big Band is performed by the world class 16 piece Barisons Swing Band.
